Aww, c'mon - you must know from your last query that a few more details are useful..... Any chance you could be slightly more specific about the nature of the problem?

What operating system are you using - Windows XP? 2000? Me? 98?

Is it plugged in to power?

Is it connected by USB2.0 or FireWire to your pc?

What size drive is it?

Can you "see" it as a lettered drive (maybe D:, maybe E:, maybe F: maybe even G:, depending on what else you have in the pc) in Windows Explorer?

Can you copy files to it?

Can you open files stored on it?

Be glad to try and help but you need to help the helper first. :confused

The external drive needs to be plugged into the mains for power (it should have a transformer with it on the mains lead.

The FireWire cable needs to be plugged into the drive and into a FireWire port on your pc - as you say, probably on the back of it though a few have ports on the front, too, behind a little hatch / cover.

With the pc running, if you then switch on the drive (small button or switch somewhere on the case) you should see a "telltale" light appear on the external disk to tell you it's powered and working. The pc should than show a small dialog box, bottom right of screen saying "USB external drive detected" (or similar) then changing to "your new hardware is ready for use".

If you open Windows Explorer at this point you should see the drive listed under "My Computer".

Once you've got that far, you should be able to save and open files from the disk.

OK. What did you want the drive to do when you bought it? Store music? Photos? Backup the disk in your pc? All of the above?

Are you able to open My Computer and see the drives on the pc listed? What letters are there? You'll have C: and D: at least; maybe an E:.

Please answer both questions.

Can I take it you managed to solve the problem?

OK, you're welcome, anyhow.
