View Full Version : Fings Aren't Quite Like They Used to be!

Quite by chance, I stumbled across some Org archives and I must say, things were a bit different a few years back. The atmosphere was more relaxed, friendly, interesting and so, so funny. I knew within the first week of posting that Jox was a bit special ....... a comic genius in fact and an asset to any Forum, but I read some threads in which he featured, which were so funny that I laughed 'til I cried. Suffice for me to give one three word example ............. "cheese to fish." LOL Then there was Baz, complaining about having to wait on the NHS list for three years to have to have his manhood reduction! [lol] That's just a couple. I really enjoyed many of the old threads and wish I'd discovered this forum a few years back. Not that I'm complaining .... the Org has something to offer everyone, but I can't help but wish that a few of the names which have disappeared would return.

Does anyone have any fond memories they'd like to share?

I remember that one, and I must admit, even for me it was a bit crude, I actually wish now I hadn't said it. But my early days on the Org were so much fun, much better and more entertaining than watching TV, and I think lately some of that fun has started to creep back into the Org. Ducati, Phill and Macademia make me laugh, they have different types of humour all can be so funny. One Orger from the early days that stands out is Lord Flasheart, he was sublime in his humour, unfortunately he had a lot of hassles in his personal life and moved around too, that he stopped posting. If you want a good laugh then read his threads and posts, here's one to get you started: http://forum.caithness.org/showthread.php?52472-Lets-Design-A-Prison-!!

My fondest memories are the weekly quiz nights held in the chat room, they were fun, before the days of Bebo and Facebook, these quizes attracted Orgers from Canada & California to take part, ahhh memories

I agree Golach, the quiz nights were such a laugh. A 30-45 minute quiz usually ended up taking a couple of hours!

Thanks for the link Jox. I managed to track a few threads in which Lord Flasheart appeared and I absolutely l-o-v-e his sense of humour. You and he made a great double act. I particularly enjoyed the prison theme, but also there was another one about a drunk in Thurso, who was lifted by the boys in blue. I wonder, did Connie and Lord ever marry? They seemed perfect for each other. LOL

Sorry Jox, but I did enjoy the post I quoted, but sorry to have mentioned it as you regret writing it. :~( For me, as an adult, I found it acceptable, as did most posters. There's far more offensive stuff out there, written without humour. BTW With you on Macademia and Ducati, but my third nominee would be Retread. All very funny and often a joy to read.

I don't suppose it's possible to read a few Quiz nights that you enjoyed, is it Golach? I've been involved in a few in my time and they are a great form of entertainment. It was never about winning, but everything to do with cheating and often getting out of control. Happy memories. :D

Agree with Golach and Jox. The weekly quiz was great fun ... sometimes I laughed so hard I cried! Such a pity that they had to be spoiled and stop!

I'm so glad that I raised this thread, because I've just spent the most enjoyable half an hour, reading more threads from the Org Archives. The quality of the banter was outstanding and nearly all of it conducted without a trace of malice. A special mention here of Tug, who is so talented at writing poetry; both humourous and serious. Again, I've laughed until I cried at some of the threads, like "Idiots." There's too many others I really appreciate to mention, but it's great that a few of them are still posting. Somebody should write a book ...... it'd be a best seller.

I must go walkabout again soon in my search for some great reading.

It is the Great Outraged that have spoilt it. Those with no sense of humour who would rather complain to mods rather than shrug things off. They are the forum's equivalent to the telltale tit. They have no concept of dark humour or irony. They would rather see an orger banned behind the scenes than give their honest opinion.

It’s been a long and boring time
Since org went off the boil
But spring has sprang with posts about
Poor farmers and their toil
As coos look on and chew their cud
Some people cry and shout for blood
At roads in Caithness full of mud
Fast driving for to spoil

Way back in time we had a ball
With new posts every minute
Each orger fine as long as they
Made contribution in it
But over time it grew quite stale
Attendance dropped, began to fail
Each post became a sorry tale
And folk began to bin it

But think of Shelley and her thong
Weeburdie and her man
On Socialist security
And Fred before his ban
Each one made posts, some bright and great
Some in the morning, some up late
And some which showed the sorry state
Of people down the pan

Yet even then some people wailed
Of boredom setting in
‘It’s not the same as once it was –
I think it is a sin!’
But we can bring it back to life
Each half-baked orger and his wife
All sharp as rusty kitchen knife
The mad, the thick, the thin

So give a shout to those you know
Who used to hang around
These pages every day and night
Each over ‘puter found
A-sniggering and mumbling low
‘Bout strangers and ‘bout folk they’d know
Sometimes at wall their glass they’d throw
While making roaring sound

Then once again the Caithness Org
Will fill with laughter light
And glowing faces will abound
Awake and keen and bright
As right before our very eyes
The pages fill with words of wise
And totally outrageous lies
A truly lovely sight

It's hilarious Alice, but I feel like I've just read the beginning and middle of a good book and don't know if there was a happy ending! Did the gorgeous Weeboys find his dream woman and is now happily married with six children? Or, is he still going walkabout whilst you're all searching for a good woman who deserves him?

Hmmm from what I recall the bride got legless at the end of the night ( Alice didnt screw her legs on tight enough )

Weeboyagee may have been smiling in the photo taken by good old Mr Fernie however I believe he was thinking Im gonna kill Alice when I get her. All night long at his birthday party folks were shouting out wheres the bride this should be a wedding party not a birthday party. Little did they know the bride was in a bin bag in the kitchen waiting to make her grand appearance. [lol]

Its no secret that I enjoyed the adventures of Maud and Coco, along with LadyK, weegili, DrSzin, the ever missed Highlander, Ned Kelly and Geoff and many many others including the dismayed mutterings of those who did not appreciate the humour and thought it was a load of silly nonsense. (which of course it was) It would make little sense to the posters of today. Loaded with innuendo it finally overstepped the mark somewhere around Dirlot Castle searching for the holy grail when the dance into double entendres became a little to close for the comfort of the admin and it was removed, hurled into the trash can of the internet where occasionally references will appear to our intrepid travellers Maud and Coco... they even posted comments on an article on the Scotsman site fairly recently. The mystery continues.

06-Mar-13, 16:26
I can understand the admin's position regarding the removal of threads with too much innuendo because the forum is meant to be family friendly and accessible by all ages, but IMO, if young people are on the web it's usually to go on chat or gaming sites, not to join a load of old people in chat about topics they have absolutely no interest in. One look at the list of threads in the General forum will tell you that most of is of little interest to youngsters. My 16yr old son is aware of the site but has never been on it, it just doesn't interest him.

Prime example of that being the thread about vampires in Portgower , its been around for years & shows how the forum has declined(most have, this one is not alone) that a thread like that which is about as funny as syphullus is still hanging around.

Change is inevitable. The fanatics cannot stop beating their drum about the SNP, windmills or whatever. That is the nature of a fanatic. Then each fanatic gets a retinue of stalkers, who search for his posts and argue with them. The fanatics are, of course, stalkers and vice-versa, so their sort of forum activity never dies out. These people have stamina and will argue forever.

Thus, when a normal person opens the General forum, it is a a daunting wall of bickering among boys who can't get a girlfriend. The normal person then usually moves on, to some other forum, or Facebook.
