With all the government welfare reforms that will be happening soon. It got me thinking.
If the people of Scotland vote for independence. What will happen about those on benefits/disability etc.
Will all this stop, and people have to claim again.

Benefits will double (at least) for the unfortunate when the SNP get control over finance also the unemployed will be no more as north sea oil will fund new job creation opportunities, also free oil central heating burning boilers will be dished out to use all the excess oil produced.

Lol Tonkatojo .... Only if we - the electorate- vote for a party which promises those things! I think Benefits are likely to remain at similar rates and there will have to be legacy arrangements for quite some time as we move from one system to another. It is worth remembering that we are not starting in an independent Scotland with nothing. There are staff and offices dealing with benefits and taxation. Despite the general public often thinking civil servants are slow and old fashioned, government departments are often very good at responding to political change. They have to, their political masters change every five years or so. There are previous examples where massive changes have been imposed, particularly on the benefit systems, the change from unemployment benefit to jobseekers allowance for example. This was a massive undertaking, including it changes, benefits running side by side and legacy arrangements being put in place. Independence will mean some things will change straightaway but some things will take time. The thing is that a YES vote gives us the opportunity to do things differently - something we dont have now.

Imagine if benefits DID double.....the Org would be awash with all the anti-benefit brigade complaints about the double spongers, double dolies and double scroungers....joking aside though, if the country has a better income and can use this money properly to bolster its economy then there should be more opportunities to get the workshy into a job. Can't see much happening in Caithness though as we seem to be forgotten about at the best of times other than being bulldozed over to make new windfarms

That is so awfully true, unfortunately.

Did you see Les Miserables at the cinema? That is what will happen, no benefits if we go independent. You'll have to sell your teeth and your body to make amends.
