i had horrendous speeds with Plusnet until i spat my dummy out. Turns out that the Wick exchange was over subscribed so they were using a single line for more than one internet connection. They upgraded the exchange in January and i was apparently moved to a new DSLAM card and since then its been better but BT are well known for IP profiling and limiting your speed. Plusnet are just as guilty mind you with their peer-to-peer bandwidth throttling. Check your speed at http://speedtester.bt.com/ and check what your actual rated speed is. When you run the test it will give you your present speed but run the further diagnostics and that will show your actual IP profile speed. If thats not showing as around 7mb or so then query it with Plusnet

My BT has been pathetically slow these past few days! Pages taking forever to load and freezing. :(

I thought it might be the server but have tried a few and all the same. Also my pc is quite new with lots of memory so can't be it.

Was having same issues with Tiscali last month with speeds <1mB. They told me they were upgrading the exchange in a couple of weeks and all would be ok. I'm getting 16mB now even at peak times, well pleased with that.

Crikey after running the diagnostics test my IP profile speed is only 1.5 mbps :( Must get in touch with BT! Thanks for sharing this Shaggy. :)
