Does anyone know if Scottish Water put flouride in our drinking water?
In Caithness I mean :)

There's a FOI statement from 2009 that says Scottish Water do not add fluoride to any water in scotland and have no plans to do so.

If you're getting a strange chemical smell I understand they use a process called chloramination (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chloramination)

No I am not getting a chemical smell, I can smell the chlorine but thats fine. I just dont want to be drinking flouride so wanted to know.

Well I've got great news for you. Long ago there was a plan to put fluoride in the Caithness water, but they found there was no need as it's naturally present in sufficient quantities, that is more than the amount in many places after it's been added.

You can buy filters to properly purify tapwater, including filters that will remove fluoride. Google the Freshwater Filter company.

Above what concentration level of fluoride in tap water would you be especially concerned with? :confused

You don't need to worry about the naturally occurring Fluoride as it is neutralised by the naturally occuring radio isotopes dissolved in the water.

My late Uncle Stanley was a geologist very familiar with the geology of Caithness. He was consulted by the water people back in the 1960s.

The first site you link to there is pretty much one blatant lie or distortion per paragraph. The second is a beautiful example of reasoned debunking of an anti-fluoridation rant. Which one do you believe?

Well I wrote an email to the second guy thanking him for doing such a good job. I'm never able to get to grips with this sort of nonsense - I end up screaming at the computer screen.
