Check forecast before you set out

SEVERE weather warnings are in place over the next two days and it is expected that blizzard conditions will cause significant disruption across the region, particularly affecting higher routes including the A9.
All roads are currently open in the Highlands and Islands, however many will be affected by snow and drivers should take extra care and allow greater stopping distances.
Anyone travelling tonight or tomorrow should check the weather forecast and road conditions and be prepared for potential delays.

Prepare for your journey

Prepare your car for wintery conditions (check our website for advice)
Allow plenty of time for you journey
Drive according to the conditions
Allow a greater stopping distance

Use 999 only in emergencies. If people require assistance (eg broken down in a snowdrift), they are encouraged to contact the control room by calling or texting 01463 715555. If there is limited mobile coverage or they have low battery, they should text (in full words explaining location and nature of problem) as this has more chance of getting through the network.

Keep vehicles off the roadside where possible to allow gritters and emergency service access

Look out for vulnerable/elderly neighbours during severe weather periods as they may be unable to get out in icy conditions
