It seems that we are paying a fair price for our petrol prices afterall. OFT found no wrongdoing with prices. What next? A boycott? Cycling? Electric cars?

Or are we going to just grumble and keep paying extra?

Guess we'll continue to grumble, Rheg. It's what we Brits do best. :D

Yes I guess. But then we'll enslave ourselves to rising costs of foreign fuels. Hardly a recipe for proud UK independence when we can generate our own fuel right here and be much more self sufficient.

Are you advocating for an independent Scotland?

To be fair, fuel prices do not reflect the true cost to society of the internal combustion engine. Motoring is heavily subsidised. It actually costs every one of us, young, old, driver, non-driver £600 a year in pollution, noise, and accidents each year. Driving should be much more expensive. We get off easy.

The Guardian. Wrong about everything, all the time.

OFT found no wrongdoing by fuel suppliers, they did, however, blame all the tax piled on top for the high costs we pay at the pump.

The Guardian just reported the story. Here's the actual research: http://www.greens-efa.eu/the-true-costs-of-automobility-8787.html

(http://www.greens-efa.eu/the-true-costs-of-automobility-8787.html)and here's the pdf of the study: http://www.greens-efa.eu/fileadmin/dam/Documents/Studies/Costs_of_cars/The_true_costs_of_cars_EN.pdf

I think it was internal mark-ups along the supply chain that got the blame. Obviously the OFT couldn't see the wood for trees.
