Sentence deferred for social inquiry report

A WOMAN described as an “habitual” bail breacher was back in court yesterday, only a few days after being granted bail.
Cheryl Fleming, 43, admitted the offence and a record, at Wick Sheriff Court, yesterday, and had sentence deferred for a background report.
The court was told that was found at the home of Peter Vercoelen in Kennedy Terrace, Wick, on January 21, contrary to special bail conditions not to approach or contact him or enter the street.
Fleming was welcome at the house and had stated that Mr Vercoelen had encouraged her to visit.
David Barclay, prosecuting, pointed to the accused’s record which included five bail breaches from 2010 onwards and added that he would have opposed bail , had Fleming pleaded not guilty.
Mr Barclay added: “Bail conditions are imposed by the court and only the court can change them. One view is that she should have known better.”
Fleming, currently subject to a community payback order, was granted bail and will return to court on February 22 for sentence after Sheriff Andrew Berry sees a report.
