Overtaking manoeuvre was misjudged

A MOTOR cyclist was forced to take prompt action after he was confronted by an overtaking car.
The car driver, John Stewart, 23, admitted a reduced charge of careless driving and a record, at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday.
Stewart pulled out to overtake a car, on the A99 south of Wick, on July 14, but misjudged the manoeuvre.
The motor cyclist, said David Barclay, prosecuting, had to slow down “fairly rapidly” to avoid a collision by giving the accused room to return to his own side of the road.
Solicitor Nicholas Scullion told the court said the anticipated disqualification would create some difficulty in his job as a joiner but he had learned his lesson.
Stewart, of 26 Lindsay Drive, Wick, was fined £450 and incurred three penalty points which took him to 12 points on his licence triggering an automatic disqualification of six months.

Nightclub smoke flare release denied

A YOUNG Thurso man has denied a smoke flare incident at a local nightclub.
Kyle Innes, 22, is alleged to have culpably and recklessly set the flare off at the Skinandi’s nightspot, on April 29, last year, releasing thick smoke to the danger of people there.
Trial was fixed for February 21.
