I have be amazed over the last few months on just how many gambling, poker and bingo web sites are now being advertised on the T V. They all seem to be offering a free cash incentive. It worries me that people think they are going to get rich quick with these sites. I'm the son of a bookmaker so it was drummed into me at a young age that their is only one winner. The bookmaker. Does anyone else think they should be controlled more?

I agree with you in one way, however i feel its things like McDonalds, Mars Bars coca-cola etc who also have ads that have no positive effects on our health should also be banned or more controlled. As a gambler myself i enjoy a flutter but only bet what i can afford. However those who have addictions to this may have a case in any point ie, the ads on the tv told me to do it. Whether it be gambling or stuffing your face at McDonalds 3,4 times a day!

Yes, Bill. Apart from the dedicated gambling channels on TV, these advertisements are popping up everywhere. I agree control is needed and that fact, is due largely to Blair and his government who reformed the Laws and opened the floodgates to promote it. If he had had his way, there would have been 17 more casinos built and 2, Las Vegas-style super casinos. Fortunately, the Lords scuppered that disgraceful plan! It was supposed to kerb the spiralling addiction to gambling. It was similar to the socialist brainwave of finding an answer to alcholism, by increasing the licensing hours, so they had more time to feed their addiction. How many lives has that crackpot destroyed?

So, yes, I think Licensing Laws should be tightened up. The punter stands no chance!

I don't gamble though - I can do sums on (not) winning pretty good.
