A THRUMSTER man is to stand trial following a New Year’s Day incident in which he is alleged to have smashed his way through the door of a house in the hamlet, with an axe.
Malcolm Nicolson, from Borrowston, appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court and pleaded not guilty to two charges. These accuse him of assaulting Virginia Ellis, of Melbourne Cottage, Thrumster, there, pushing her to the ground, hitting her head on the floor and seizing her by the neck. He is also alleged to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner.
His trial was fixed for April 4. Nicolson, 59, was granted conditional bail, banning him from contacting Ms Ellis and entering Melbourne Cottage, meantime.

Kill threat alleged

Plucknett, of Sweyn Road, Thurso, was said to be currently subject to a community-based sentence, imposed by an English court in September, and as a result, Honorary Sheriff Gordon Beveridge, called for a social inquiry report.
The 22-year-old accused was granted conditional bail and will be sentenced on January 23.
