Tributes paid to "tremendous" footballing prospect

TRIBUTES have been paid to former Wick Academy player Jamie Gunn who died suddenly at his home in Rutherglen in the run-up to Christmas.
The news came as a shock to the Scorries as they prepared to face derby rivals Brora Rangers at Harmworth Park, today - and to the general community.
Jamie was found collapsed at his home, on December 23. His brother Craig, an Elgin City striker, was said to be too upset to speak about the tragedy but posted several heartbreaking messages on a social networking site.
In one of them he wrote-“It’s going to be a tough Christmas in the Gunn household but we just need to stay strong so wee man can enjoy his day."
Jamie, 34, grew up in Wick with his other brother, Marc and sister Claire. He managed one of the Celtic stores in Glasgow.
Former Academy chairman Alistair Gunn, who was the club’s assistant manager when Jamie played for the Scorries in the North Caledonian League, said: “ Jamie was a tremendous lad and a tremendous prospect as a footballer. It’s a real tragedy.”
Academy’s chairman Colin Stewart said: “Our thoughts are with the family and we will be paying tribute to Jamie once we have spoken to them.”
A Strathclyde police spokesman said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal..
