Don't think I have ever seen a horse mussel, next time I am north must make a point of trying to see some.

It's funny you should put this on, I've been reading about them as sinclair bay is noted for having them :)
They're apparently rare, was looking to see if there's any kind of protection on them.

I would doubt you ever will now that this has made the bbc news :(

As Annemarie482 says - hope they are protected in some way.

Anyone know more information about these mussel beds?

Im surprised theres any left there , the amount of clammers towing off Wick in the last 30 years mustve rattled some dredges through there at some point !!!

I do remember someone telling me about 3 years ago that there was a huge mussel bed out there , I also know there is a large mussel bed just a few miles nor east o the Beatrice/Jacky fields but not sure if theyre economically viable to fish for or not ? I do love eating them however

And now it's public knowledge It won't be long before they are non existent.

Why cant they keep these things hush hush!
The more that know the more that are likely to eat the reserves away...
I have picked whelks for work (1 tub)....sometimes they are easy to find and on other occasions they are like hens teeth to find...not from climate/migration/ breeding patterns etc but from commercial pickers stripping the whole area bare!

My old man was still going for Clabby Dhu's (Clappy Dhu's) down Lochgilphead way when he was in his late 70's.
