This morning, at 00.22 to be precise, and only for those who inhabit the northern hemisphere, the sun was at its furthest point from the equator in an event also known as the winter solstice and taken as being the midpoint of the season. In other words, from here on in, the nights are getting shorter and the days are getting longer as we make our way headlong towards summer. The dark and often gruelling Scottish winter is an excellent time to catch up on whisky drinking :)
