Cycle route/lodgings recommendations

A group of us are considering a bit of cycle touring in the highlands next year. Does the forum have any recommendations/advice re: hostels, lodgings, camp sites, scenic routes, roads to avoid etc?

Many people cycle from Barra to the Butt of Lewis each year.
Lesley Riddoch has written a book about her cycle trip a few years ago, entertaining reading from a lady with Caithness roots.
Book is called - Riddoch on the Outer Hebrides, may give you a few ideas.
