Offender gets final chance but warned of consequences if he doesn't take it

A SHERIFF has given a regular offender a final chance but admitted he was not all that confident he would take.
The accused, Dominic Long admitted breaking a window in Queen's Square, Thurso, on September 26 and failing to comply with a bail condition requiring him to report daily to the local police.
Solicitor Neil Wilson said that the 17-year-old had undergone a psychiatric assessment, but while the accused had “many difficulties”, mental issues were not among them.
In a strong plea, Mr Wilson appealed to Sheriff Andrew Berry, at Wick yesterday, to consider an alternative to custody.
Sheriff Berry observed that Long had exhausted every possible opportunity but declared that he was prepared to go along with Mr Wilson’s suggestion although he was not over confident about the outcome, given the accused’s history of not complying with court orders.
The sheriff warned the Long, however, that if he did not avail him of this opportunity, he was “simply going to find himself back in custody, over and over again.”
Long was sentenced to 40 days detention which he has already served on remand and made subject to a 7pm-7am curfew tag for the next four months.

Anderson of Boulglass House, Forse was also banned from driving for the regulation year.
The 22-year-old was stopped by police on the Rumster road, on October 27. Tests revealed a breath-alcohol level of 41 micrograms. The limit is 35mgs.
