Do you agree with Sen John Kerry on what he said about Soldiers in Iraq? Uneducated? I was offended by his comments. What do you all think?
What a way to talk about our brave lads and lassies.

Ive not seen John Kerry's remarks on soldiers in Iraq. Speaking from first hand experience as an ex serving member of HM forces (provost branch) the vast majority of all ranks, all arms are salt of the earth.

Things have changed in the 10 years since I left, imo for the worse. With defence cuts and increased overseas deployments, our troops are expected to serve in more was zones than ever before, with less recovery times in between. But they still do this with immense proffesionalism.

This has a knock on effect on their families back home, partners expected to carry on regardless. (The Sun recently ran a story on the slum conditions that families live in married quarters, whilst partners risk their lives over seas.)

As in all walks of life, there are people in the armed forces that may not have had the chance in life that John Kerry had, may not have had the benifit of a good education, but when it comes down to it our armed forces may be a bit rough round the edges at times, but are the best in the world.

Coolio, what are you on about? Kerry was referring to George W Bush, not the troops in Iraq. As a decorated war hero himself, as opposed to the draft-dodging Bush, he is hardly likely to insult the troops, is he. He did however fumble his own (not very funny) line, giving right-wing nutters in the US press a day or two of "Ooooh hear what he said!".

This was all hashed out in the US media weeks ago.

He was talking about the american leadership, but has been slandered
and misquoted by the right wing slander machine.

See the quote in context for yourself:

The british media did not report it, it was a non-event except for the slander machine and its minions.

Here is senator Kerry's apology:
