"I didn't leave Academy for more money" - manager

CONTROVERSIAL Brora Rangers manager, Davie Kirkwood has claimed that he didn’t make the switch from Wick Academy for more money.
He is reported in today’s Press and Journal as saying: “I left for the challenge of not just building a football team but a football team.”
Kirkwood also took the opportunity of setting the record straight on another myth that the Dudgeon Park club has a bottomless pot of cash with which to buy in player talent.
He said: “it is people’s perception we have a lot of money – we haven’t.”
Kirkwood said that club sponsor Ben Mackay, managing director of off-shore pipeline construction company CRC Evans, invested £50,00 in Brora.
Kirkwood said that the club did not splash out big bucks on former Alloa player, Craig Campbell, who was a free agent and added that the Sutherland club only paid a fraction of the £20,000, it was rumoured to have spent on Ally Ridgers and Dale Gillespie.
The Brora boss stressed: “If people think we are going to outbid teams for players, they are sadly mistaken. Players will only come here to play football.”
Wick Academy’s new manager, Barry Wilson got a cautious character reference from, perhaps, a predictable source – his dad.
Bobby Wilson who had an impressive managerial career at various levels, was a spectator at Harmsworth Park, on Saturday seeing Academy thrash Keith 5-1.
Wilson commenting on his son’s future with the Scorries, said: “He’ll do alright. He has always wanted to be his own man and had good experience with Ross Jack at Legin. But now he has come to a very good team, they play good football and he has got a quality assistant manager in Richard Hughes”
