Hi

I'm looking for old footage of Caithness, especially in wintery/snowy conditions. Nostalgic vibes. Also, the older the footage the better.

I've tried the Wick Library and British Pathe with no joy. I have also contacted the Heritage Centre but haven't heard back.

Ideally we need footage that is online or on disc and the permission to edit it and use it in a promotional music video.

Any ideas would be greatly recieved!

Darren

Saw this a wee while ago of Groats, from BFI Films - no sure about permissions though and there's no snow but it is old! ;)

(Put simply) Caithness Horizons is the new name for Thurso Town Hall.
Have you tried thirsaloonon here on the org. he has a lot of old photos etc.

There is a video clip on the British Pathe News website of "Operation snowdrop" where the north of Scotland is almost totally snowed in. It shows relief air drops being made in Caithness amongst other places. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses guys. We didn't find the footage we hoped for in the end. Well, we found great footage of a similar nature but not of Caithness unfortunately.

However, we'd like to use 2 photos from the Johnson Collection as the Artwork, we really wanted to feature Caithness in this somewhere. But we cant get a hold of anyone who might grant us permission. I've heard a Harry Gray has knowledge over digital access. Could anyone point me in his direction? The unfortunate thing is that we need to have the photos by Fri as to avoid missing the iTunes registration cut of for music releases areound Dec/Jan as the shutdown the office. We'd end up having to use something non-Caithness again, which would be a complete shame.

These are the images we hoped to use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. But the more urgent the better!!

Thanks

If your request was so urgent it's such a pity you've taken a month to reply to your own thread.

Try sending a private message to Mosser on this forum.

Good luck.

The decision to try and use these photos was taken approx. on Tuesday after giving up on getting Caithness in the video. Until then I've been trying to nail down the footage. I thought I'd wait until I'd had a result before updating everyone on our progress. I feel like I've just been told off...on a forum!

Thanks for the tip, I'll give them a shout.

Back shortly...

Yes I can see why you'd think that.

It's a pet hate of mine when folk post questions on the forums, don't acknowledge some of the well meaning replies until much later..... OR WORSE.... don't post back at all. :(

Apart from all of that, my message of Good Luck was very sincerely meant. It's what these forums come up trumps for, time after time. Someone here usually always knows someone who can help. All best.

The worst thing about a forum is the mis-interpretation. I had no intention of never returning to this thread, I was just busy working on the case in hand.

Thanks to everyone for their help. We got a result that we are very happy with although not totally what we ideally would have had. I have attached a link to the video and to our bandcamp page which entitles you to a free download of the song, you can see how we used the Johnston Collection image there.

Thanks again everyone.
