"Gross breach of trust" says sheriff

A FAR north postman has been jailed for a fraud the sheriff described as “a gross breach of trust”.
The three-months sentence was passed at Wick, today, on Robert Mcilroy, of Scarfs Craig Place, in the town.
Mcilroy (47) admitted stealing 13 Royal Mail 'test' packages containing cash, on January 11. The company had been concerned about packets going missing and mounted a sting operation mounted on the accused's Wick-Inverness delivery run.
The theft was said to have been prompted by financial difficulties the accused was experiencing.
Sheriff Andrew Berry observed that the severe, depression Mcilroy was said to have been suffering, was not borne out by a background report before the court.
