Court spares job-seeking driver disqualification

WICK Justices of the Peace responded to a plea from a driver caught speeding at almost 100 mph, not to disqualify him after hearing that a ban could affect his chances of employment.
But unemployed John Christie, 39, was fined £280 and incurred six penalty points after he admitted the offence yesterday.
He was clocked by police travelling at 99mph in a 60mph limit, on the A99 at Hempriggs near Wick, on July 13.
The court heard that Christie, of 19 Macleod Road, Wick, was due to have a job interview in Glasgow, shortly.
In a separate case, another speeder was also fined £280 and incurred six penalty points after he admitted the offence.
Unemployed Steven Macdonald, 25, of 27 Howburn Road, Thurso, was caught exceeding a 60mph limit, at Loch Rangag, by Spittal on the A9, on August 11.
He was travelling at 94mph.

Collided with refuse lorry

A STUDENT misjudged his distance while following a Highland Council refuse vehicle, on collection duty and ran into the back of it.
First offender James Mackay, of Ochnich, Upper Lybster, admitted driving carelessly, on the A99 at Hempriggs, near Wick, on August 29.
Described as“an inexperienced driver”, the 17-year-old was fined £120 and incurred three penalty points.
