laptop problem

I am experiencing a cd/dvd drive problem, when I insert a cd the machine sounds like it goes into overdrive and stays that way the cd still plays normally and ejects normally. I would appreciate it if anyone has a solution or fix remedy other than replace the unit.... Thanks in advance :)

might well be dust on the lense

get a CD cleaner disc.
