Accused was difficult to handcuff

A Wick man’s movements will be curtailed for the next six months after he was sentenced at the town’s sheriff court for threatening or abusive behaviour and resisting arrest.
Police found twenty-one-year-old Adam Hope badly injured and in an intoxicated state when they responded to a report of a disturbance in Wellington Street, Wick, earlier this month.
He began to shout and swear at the officers and became difficult to handcuff, the court was told.
After being taken to hospital he became agitated and abusive and refused medical help.
Hope, of Neil Gunn Road, Dunbeath, pleaded guilty and was set to have had “far too much to drink” and remembered nothing of the incidents.
Sheriff Andrew Berry, who saw a background report, warned Hope that if he didn’t address his difficulties he was repeatedly going to find himself in custody.
The accused was put on an 8pm-8am curfew for the next four months as a direct alternative to prison.

Duo had no permission to hunt

TWO Thurso men were ordered to carry out unpaid community service after they admitted poaching for rabbits on Baillie Farm land at Westfield.
Dean Meiklejohn (22) of Royal Terrace and William Sutherland (21) pleaded guilty to the offence which occurred on October 7. Sutherland admitted a further charge of having a knife in his possession.
Meiklejohn will carry out 75 hours unpaid community service and his co-accused 150 hours.

Brandished knife

A WICK woman in the town will carry out 45 hours unpaid community service as her sentence for behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Latieshia Bremner was observed with a kitchen knife on her way from Macrae Street where she lives, into Upper Dunbar Street, Wick, on July 15 commenting she was going to self-harm herself. She was arrested by police.
The 19-year-old who, it was stressed, didn’t threaten anyone else had not taken medication, she should have, the court was told.
