Incoherent, eyes glazed, she bumped into a trolley and patient's leg

A CAITHNESS nurse, who turned up drunk for work at her local hospital put her patients at risk, her professional body has concluded.
Alison McLennan was in charge of the accident and emergency department at Caithness General Hospital when she reported for a shift “incoherent with her eyes glazed over”.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council found that McLennan’s fitness to practice, was imparired by way of her misconduct and suspended her from working for six months.
Panel chairwoman Karen Heenan said that the nurse had brought the profession into disrepute.
Statements were submitted from colleagues who had been working with Ms McLennan, who said she had admitted to them she had been drinking. After bumping into a trolley and a patient's leg, she agreed to go home.
The panel, which met in private, but issued details of its deliberations, did not receive any communication from the nurse.
McLennan has 28 days in which to appeal its decision. NHS Highland said the nurse is no longer employed by them.
