Spruce confirms she had repaid gala funds balance

WICK GALA funds embezzler Karen Spruce confirmed to a court, yesterday, that she has paid back the balance of funds she embezzled but the sheriff is keeping tabs on her.
Sheriff David Sutherland allowed her probation order at Stornoway Sheriff Court, which includes 240 hours unpaid community service, to continue, but will review it again in December.
The sheriff had previously called for an appraisal of Spruce’s financial affairs and those of her partner, after it emerged that the accused had still to repay £9,500. She stole £22,000 over a three-year period while treasurer of the Wick Town Improvements Association and after her initial appearance at the town’s sheriff court, moved to the Western Isles.
Its former chair, Lorna Ross, said the final instalment would be used to pay outstanding bills and it was hoped to donate the balance to the current Wick Gala Committee.
