Auction House confident it will go under the hammer at next sale
HEMPRIGGS HOUSE failed to attract any realistic bids when it came up at auction in Glasgow this week.
A spokesman for auction house, Future Property Auctions, explained that bids for historical Hempriggs House, were below the asking price - in excess of £250,000.
He explained that the reason was that it had been a late entry into their catalogue but added he was confident it would sell at the firm’s next auction in October. Entered as Lot 10c, the residence, set in its own grounds, was last used as a home for senior citizens.
It has 20 bedrooms, three public rooms and a large kitchen and retains many of its original features. The sale includes two parcels of rough land with shooting rights to the west and fishing rights on neighbouring Loch Hempriggs. Kennels, stables and a double garage, plus a fomer coach house and cottage, are included in the sale.
B-listed Hempriggs House was purchased by an English woman after its care home role ended, but she never occupied it or had it developed. It was put on the market by creditors.
The property dates back to the 17th century when owners, the Dunbar family, welcomed James Graham, the Marquis of Montrose who was then the King’s Lt General in the north.
