Supporters urged to focus on the football
THERE will be a police presence at tomorrow night's North Cup clash between Wick Academy and derby rivals Brora Rangers.
Feelings have been running high over the shock defection to the Sutherland club by Academy manager, Davie Kirkwood. He quit without a word to the Harmsworth Park executive and added insult to injury by taking in Brora’s encounter with coast side, Lossiemouth, instead of travelling to Wick’s match with Turriff.
Academy executive member, Ken Wood issued a public address system appeal to local supporters, at the team’s Saturday’s home game in the league, against Lossie urging them to be professional.
Academy struggled to dispose of Lossie but stuck to their task and emerged 5-3 victors.
However, Richard Hughes, who has taken the reigns, with his former assistant Ian Munro, meantime, said afterwards that the team’s performance fell short of expectations.
Brora take the field on the back a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fraserburgh and will be determined to make an impression in this cup encounter.
Wick police sergeant Grand McDowall said that Northern Constabulary did not normally police matches at tonight’s level but they were aware there was “an issue” in the floodlight match.
He confirmed there would be a presence, but declined to go into details.
