I have seen Simpsons putting fuel into Tesco over the last couple of weeks as well as Tescos own tanker. Never heard of any problems with sites that Simpsons deliver to

A friend who was a driver for a fuel company told me that all fuel companies supply the same basic fuel. The only difference is that each fuel company pays for a different combination of additives, the fewer, if any, additives, the cheaper the fuel. I fill up on what ever fuel is available when I need it. But my classic MG performs better when I use Shell. And I get more miles to the gallon, which in turn makes it cheaper per mile!

Shell Petrol, are there any Shell Stations left in Caithness? I can not think of any. I thought all Shell Stations changed to Gleaner so please correct if I am wrong.

Other than that I will still use Tesco Diesel as the last Time I filled up, two days ago, I paid £1.36 per ltr and all other stations in wick and Thurso were quiye a bit more expensive, anything up to !.45 per ltr.

If you had bought the fuel from Dunnets would you be blaming them?

been using Tesco's fuel for as long as I can remember on both new and old cars. never once had a problem with. If it was the fuel half the cars & vans in Caithness would of broken down by now. Blame something else, maybe poor maintenance or a unpreventable breakdown that is no ones fault. That is usually the answer in 99.99999999% of cases.

Their petrol works pretty good in a 57-year old motorbike engine, if that's any assistance here.

Everyone else's petrol works perfectly well too, in the bike and in the 2007 car.

I really don't know who to boycott first.

I use Tesco fuel regularly and the only issue i see is that they have foisted a 7% bio-diesel mix on us. Older diesel cars (pre 92, if there are many left) shouldn't really be putting any amount whatsoever of bio-diesel in their tanks. But hey, im not a qualified mechanic so take what i say with a pinch of salt...

If there was a problem with the fuel supplied by Tesco I think you'd hear more about it than a lone posting on a Caithness community website.

3 cases of water in the fuel in Tesco in huntly, 2 cases of the same in inverness, Tesco fuel is inferior, i drive to aberdeen and back on 1 tank of fuel from dunnets however i cant do it on tesco fuel, 0 and i think they must get be getting water in the system somewhere along the line, now i`m not saying i never use the damn stuff but when going off anywhere i use dunnets and fill up doon sooth,

dont ask me to prove it because to be truthful i canna be bothered, but i know its happening and its easy for tesco in wick to say """ o my thats a first """""

what did the computers say. You have never told us?

3 cases of water in the fuel in Tesco in huntly, 2 cases of the same in inverness,

Have you checked the number of cases of water in fuel at say BP or SHELL garages?

WATER from floods has contaminated an underground diesel fuel storage tank at a Canberra service station, causing headaches for motorists who filled up their vehicles with dodgy fuel.
BP has confirmed that it had conducted tests and found that water had got into its stores at Macquarie.
A spokesman for BP said the company's claims service department was dealing with three customers whose vehicles had been affected.
''The torrential rain of recent times did cause some contamination at Jamison,'' he said.

DOZENS of motorists got more than they bargained for when their cars are thought to have broken down after a petrol pump was delivering water.
Drivers were left counting the cost as several vehicles shuddered to a halt after topping up with unleaded fuel at the Shell Garage in Larkhall’s Machan Road last Thursday about 9am.
About 10 minutes later, the filling station was shut off to motorists as eight cones blocked the entry and exit to the site following complaints from angry drivers.
It’s believed that water had got into the tanks at the filling station.

Sorry but I don't believe water could get into the petrol without someone noticing. I worked in a Tesco petrol station and all the fuel tanks are connected to a gauge that measures the volume in each tank. This is checked before and after each delivery so if water was seeping into the tanks then the numbers wouldn't add up.

The computer code was something to do with a fuel problem my van would run fine then at least once a month u would turn the key and I would not start and if it did it would not take throttle and splutter 4diferent garages could not find the problem the final straw was last month filled up at tescos drove to Seater then would not start so pumped out the fuel then filled up from another garage never done anything apart from avoiding tescos pumps the vans ran perfect ever since

I used to have a vw polo anytime I filled up from Tesco in wick it would keep cutting out.Had it to dealers they could find nothing wrong so I asked if it could be the petrol from supermarkets they said its definitely a possibility but cant be sure.I stopped using Tesco for petrol or any supermarket after that and never had another bit of bother with the car.
I still buy diesel from them as there's not much can go wrong with that but I would never buy Petrol from them or any other supermarket ever again as it is just crap has less additives and is false economy as you get less miles to the gallon as its classed as dirty fuel.

I'm inclined to agree with you WickBlast, my dad got petrol from Tescos recently for the lawn mower, now it was recently serviced, is kept in a shed so can't be gettin water there. It was running fine u til he topped it up with the latest batch of fuel, it revved up ok for bout 30secs, then died...wouldn't start again. He borrowed a mower to finish the lawn (not bein technically minded he didn't try to fix it, and the technical kick he gave it only hurt his toe!!) and it ran ok until it needed topped up, exactly the same happened. Now before anyone jumps doon ma throat and says its e fuel can that had water in it, it's a fairly new one, that is kept in a closed in cupboard in a dry (new) workshop, so it can't have water in it.Anyways to finish my slightly long yarn off, we drained e fuel tank, and put different fuel in n e lawn power started easily and ran no worries til the lawn was cut.Take from that what you will, I know iv stopped using tesco petrol, but still use e diesel.Ohhh n please don't jump doon ma throat I'm only passin on my story, I'm sure some of you will find something to be massively outraged at, and will contradict my view, that's what e org is all about eh :0)

Wouldna use Tesco petrol if it was the last in e county. Utter keich. I have in the past used their diesel tho.
I have seen folks try to run outboard motors on the stuff, and they run like a bag of spanners. When tried again with "real" petrol, they run just fine. Go figure.....

I have noticed once that there was a difference in the diesel between Tesco and Shell. Having filled up at Tesco in Inverness I had a 350 mile drive south and I was on vapours by the time I got to my destination. On the way back north I filled up with Shell and I had a good bit left in the tank by the time I got to Inverness, my initial reaction was that I got better mileage out of the Shell stuff.

However, that was a one off and I was not taking into account, wind direction, road conditions etc so I could easily have got the same performance from the two brands. I need to do much more tests to make a better judgement which I'm not willing to do.

when i fill my van up at tescos i dont get the same miles out the tank as i do when i fill it at dunnets and its not like i drive it faster or anything i think tesco deisel is bulked up with bio diesel which will make your car or van run slightly difrent than normal diesel!thats just my opinion!

dandod if you have nothing constructive to say try keeping yer mouth shut,
and back to the point, tesco fuel gives less miles to the gallon, there is less additives in it, as i said before if i do fill up in tesco wick, i can get from wick to aberdeen and back to brora, if i fill up in shell inverness i can get from there to aberdeen back to wick and then back to the shell garage, i reckon i get about 40 miles less on a 10 gallon tank, fair bit when you have to do it twice a month,

Tesco do not supply super unleaded so for that reason I cannot comment on the quality of their petrol but I do use their diesel now and then and I find the car gets less mpg on Tesco diesel when compared to other suppliers. When it is convenient to do so I prefer to support the other pumps in the county but that's just me.

Yesterday I gave Tesco a miss and bought petrol from Dunnets'.

Tesco's pumps were just too busy to bother with. Bet all those broken-down drivers are sorry now!
