Jail for man who caused doorstep disturbance
A MAN created a disturbance after his partner in an on-off relationship refused to let him back into her home, Wick Sheriff Court was told yesterday.
Darren Bruce (27) was jailed for three months after he appeared from custody and admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and a record.
Bruce, of Kirkfield Cottage, Olrig, Castletown, had called to retrieve one of his belongings, on July 7. His partner made it clear, she was reluctant to let him in and the accused shouted and swore and repeatedly banged on a glass panel on the front door of her home in Lyness House, Thurso.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood told Bruce of Kirkfield Cottage, Olrig, Castletown that he had not showed the slightest willingness to comply with sentencing disposals, over the years.
The prison sentence is backdated to July 16 then the accused was arrested.
Dangerous driving denied
AN Oxfordshire man is to stand trial, accused of driving dangerously on the A9 Causewaymire road.
Roy Walker pleaded not guilty.
The charge alleges that, on April 13, the 50-year-old, from Salvia Close, Banbury, repeatedly crossed the centre white line on the Causewaymire road, almost colliding with three vehicles, before his van left the road and crashed into a ditch.
Walker’s trial was fixed for October 1.
Touring man stole drink from store
A tourist who stole alcohol from a store in Thurso was fined £200.
Sixty-five-year-old John Brown was caught after he removed two bottle of spirits and four cans of cider from display units at the Co-op's Meadow Lane, branch in Thurso on Thursday. He was fined £200.
Brown and his wife were said to have sold their house in 1999 to spend their retirement touring.
