O'Brien Construction lands Stromness pierhead project

The contract for the Stromness pierhead regeneration project has been awarded to Thurso firm O’Brien Construction reports The Orcadian this week.
The 3.68 million project will see the construction of two new retail units and the relocation of the town’s library from Hellihole Road to a new purpose built facility at the pierhead.
New office space is also being created — to be shared with Northern Constabulary — providing access to council services and encouraging the dispersal of jobs to the town.
The funding will also go towards the cost of repaving the area with local flagstone, a project which has been carried out elsewhere in the town through the Stromness Townscape Heritage Initiative.
The contractors will start on site in mid-September with final completion expected in January 2014.
