Accused tries sheriff's patience over court dates

A WICK man nearly found himself in hot water at the town’s sheriff court yesterday.
Sandy Johnston (50) tried Sheriff Andrew Berry’s patience while he was being advised of dates for future appearances.
Johnston, of Cairndhuna Terrace, Wick, had denied four charges and protested his innocence before walking from the dock.
He was ordered back by the sheriff who requested that the accused confirm the dates which he was unable to do.
Sheriff Berry told Johnston that the reason was, that he was either concerned with leaving the dock or had been speaking when he was advised of the dates.
The sheriff added: “You are going to find yourself in the cells if you don’t listen to me”. Johnston was again told the dates, September 24 for his trial and the 14th of the same month for and intermediate hearing. Do you understand?” The accused acknowledged.
The offences allege three counts of threatening or abusive behaviour at a house in Cairndhuna Terrace, Wick, and at Wick police station and a fourth charge of possessing the Class B drug, cannabis resin, all on May 18.
