Would people of Caithness be interested in fund raising for a new shelter for dogs?

As far as I am aware dogs are the hardest to re-home compared to cats and other pets because of the dedication of time and attention they need. Often some dogs (mainly the breeds that are marked as 'dangerous') are in shelter for a year/s. I'm just re-searching in to the idea of another place for the dogs to be exercised fully and trained. A place that focuses on them individually, that brings out there shine! Not as competition for the other providers but as a helping hand.

Somewhere the dogs can get the freedom they need. Insted of being kenneled for most of there days intill somone 'loves them' enough to take them home.

If anyone has any helpful information you can send me a PM! Thank you!

I think that most of the unhomed rescue dogs in Caithness are put to fosterers, rather than kennelled.

Yeah most are re-homed. But there are a few who stay there for a longer time. Its more about the quality of care they get before they're re-homed, not enough time in there day to exercise, play & keep the dogs attended to.

I can assure you that, as dog fosterers ourselves, the quality of care our foster dogs get is excellent . What makes you think fosterers in Caithness do not give a good quality of care ??
I think you're imagining things , or reading too many newspapers ! :-)

I'm simply suggesting my idea of a facility for dogs that get the attention they need, I know myself that a busy place for animals and limited staff and hours has an effect on the time spent with the dogs. I never said fosterers don't give a good quality, of course they do. I'm talking about the facilitys that take them on to be adopted out have a lot of work on there hands (good work at that) the time they can spend with the dogs is limited because of the work load and dogs need a lot of attention. This is my own perception of what I have seen not what I have heard.

Perhaps you want to have a look at the KWK9 website and see what is already being done in Caithness as far as rehabilitating unwanted and stray dogs in a loving home enviroment so they have the chance to find homes. www.kwk9.org (http://www.kwk9.org)

I really don't think another place is needed in Caithness. KWK9 do a fantastic job, and having one of their dogs, I know their fosters put an awful lot of work, time and care into their dogs before they are rehomed. I dread to think what my Katy would be like if she was in a kennel environment before 12 weeks of age. She was already 'damaged' and her foster parents did so well with her.

Perhaps instead of raising money for a new place you could volunteer to work with the dogs who have not been placed with foster carers? You could walk them play with them and generally socialise and do some basic training when necessary. Now that would be worthwhile

I was on the voluntary list for a while there but have now been giving a place to help out so I'm thrilled for that. I don't think there could be too many places to help animals, I think if there are more places and people all helping for the same reason it can only be a good thing. SSPCA & KWK9 do such an amazing job though I admire them!

well actually we do need another one becaus i think it takes along time to foster dogs campaired to cats so if we have another one it might help to speed up the process and foster more dogs.

Not sure how another place would "speed up the process" more people willing to foster would be a better idea.

No, it doesn't. It simply would go faster if there were more willing to foster and adopt, not more rescue centres.

Another rescue centre would also impact on the 2 we already have, there is only so much people can give to charity in the current economic climate. The rescues we have do an excellent job and if you have that much enthusiasm it would definately be of more benefit to help out at the established rescues.
