Drug accused behaved in "a disgraceful manner" towards police

A DRUG dealer behaved in “a disgraceful” manner towards the police, after being arrested, Wick Sheriff Court heard today.
Roddy Aitken swore at one officer using an unsavoury term and threw a cup at another constable.
Aitken admitted assaulting a police officer and behaving in threatening or abusive behaviour and two charges of supplying drugs
Aitken (27) was at a party in Wick on October 31, last year when he gave some of the guests, ecstasy tablets and cannabis resin, as an obligement, as opposed to a commercial transaction, it was stressed.
A few months later on June 29, this year, he was arrested on an unrelated matter, and taken to Wick police station where he swore at a police officer. The following day he assaulted Constable Derek Fraser who had provided him with a cup of water with which to take his medication, in his cell.
Then, said acting fiscal Fiona Banks, the accused threw the cup containing the remainder of the water through the cell hatch, striking P.C. Fraser, in the face.
Solicitor George Mathers said that Aitken, of Girnigoe Street, Wick, was “high” on drink or drugs, at the time and was in a temper at being locked up. He was ashamed of his “intolerable behaviour” and wished to apologise.
Mr Mathers said that the accused had had long-time drug habit, having abused drugs since the age of 12 – the bulk of his previous record was drug-related – and he also had a drink problem.
Sheriff Andrew Berry deferred sentence for a background report until July 20 and remanded Aitken in custody meantime.
