Drugs discovered at Wick man's home

A 28-year-old Wick man was fined £200 at the town’s Justice of the Peace Court, yesterday, after he admitted two drugs offences.
James Ross, of Cairndhuna Terrace, Wick co-operated fully with police officers after they discovered the Class B drugs, cannabis resin and cathinone at a house in the town’s Dunnet Avenue, April 26.
The drugs amounted to just over seven gms in total.
Ross pleaded guilty by letter and admitted a previous record.

Argument leads to court appearance

AN early-morning argument with two girls led to Mervyn Ahmed being arrested.
The 29-year-old admitted a breach of the peace, and a previous record. The incident took place as people were leaving licensed premises at The Shore, Wick, on December 27.
Ahmed, of Burn Street, Wick, ended up struggling with the pair, whom he termed to police, as being “no angels themselves”.
Solicitor Neil Wilson described the behaviour as “drunken nonsense”. Sentence was deferred for six months to allow the accused to demonstrate he can behave himself.

Community service for thief

David MacGregor left a Wick ironmonger’s shop with a battery tester and a knife...trouble was he hadn’t paid for them.
MacGregor (34) of Harrow Terrace, Wick admitted the theft, on February 10 and was ordered to carry out 20 hours unpaid community work.
In addition, he will have to pay the shopkeeper compensation of £15, the value of the goods.

Speedy driver

POLICE who followed North Kessock driver, Drew Howie, recorded him reaching speeds of up to 80mph.
Howie (22) of Bochiemuir, Drumspittal, North Kessock, admitted speeding in a 60mph limit on the Georgemas-Wick road, on March 28.
He was fined £300 and incurred five penalty points.

Alleged assault on husband

A WOMAN has denied a charge of attacking her husband.
Dana Meiklejohn tendered a plea of not guilty at Wick Sheriff Court, yesterday.
The 39-year-old is alleged to have punched and scratched Edward Meiklejohn at their home, Eddana, Dunnet, by Thurso, on Saturday, attempted to stab him with a pair of scissors and thrown an ashtray and crockery at him.
She is also accused of threatening or abusive behaviour .
Meiklejohn (39) was bailed to an address in Thurso and will return to court for her trial on September 3.
