Sheriff warns of custodial consequences if violent behaviour continues
A FRASERBURGH fisherman with a record was warned by a sheriff that if his violent conduct continued, it was likely he would end up in prison.
Burly Shaun Brigham denied assaulting a man outside Popeye's bar, on the Scrabster waterfront, but was found guilty after a trial at Wick Sheriff Court last month. He was ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid community work, yesterday.
The incident happened on November 11, last year, while the accused was on bail.
Brigham (46) of Broad Street, Fraserburgh, had argued with another customer, Colin Creelman, inside the pub and it led to the pair going outside, to “sort things out”.
Sheriff Andrew Berry heard conflicting versions of what happened, next, but off-duty special police constable Janice Gallacher witnessed the altercation from a window of an upstairs restaurant which overlooks the pub entrance
She told the court that following “some pushing and shoving”, Brigham pushed Mr Creelman to the ground and punch and kicked him in the head.
Mr Creelman, who had come north to visit his girlfriend, was so badly bruised and bleeding, that medical staff at the local hospital at which he was treated – 22 miles away at Wick – had to wait for a time before they treated him, because his head was so badly swollen.
Mr Creelman said, in evidence, that it felt as if he had been "in a car crash".
