View Full Version : Best compact digital camera for night shots?

My other half is into 'lamping' - catching rabbits with the dog at night using a spotlamp - and would love to take some pics of the action. The photos would be taken either in complete darkness at a distance of 2-3 metres or from further away with the spotlamp. Continuous shooting mode would be handy too for capturing the dog running. We do have a decent Nikon which can do all this but I won't let him take it in case he drops it in a field! Plus, it's a bit too big to fit in his pocket.

So, we're looking for a compact digital at around the £50 mark. I'm guessing it needs a high ISO and maybe a large lens?? Some sort of image stabilisation would be good. In an ideal world it would be waterproof, dirt-proof and shockproof too but I'm trying to be realistic! I'd love one of the Olympus Tough lot but they're a bit of out the price bracket. I've been looking at some Fuji Finepix models but am getting totally confused by conflicting reviews!

So... any recommendations? Thanks in advance ;)
