Events across the Highlands and Islands will be supported by some famous big names from the t.v. and film world
CONNECTING CARERS is supporting this year’s Carers Week (18-24 June) by organising a week of events in partnership with other organisations across the Highlands, and a roving Campervan Tour of our Carers Information Stand. Carers Week highlights the vital contribution made by carers to their families and communities in providing unpaid care for someone who due to illness, frailty, physical or mental illness, addiction, disorder or disability needs their supprt. This year, the theme for the week is ‘In Sickness and in Health". It calls for greater support for unpaid carers to help them continue in their caring role without facing ill health, stress or financial worry.
Along with many other events taking place across the UK, the Connecting Carers events and Campervan Tour will help to support carers by raising awareness of Carers and their vital role across the Highland region.
Tina Morrow, Service Manager from Connecting Carers said: “Many carers in Highland suffer due to a lack of understanding about what they do – some don’t even recognise themselves as carers. This can have a real and negative impact on their health, finances, working and social life, and general wellbeing. Our activities and Campervan Tour of the Carers Information Stand is one example of the many activities and services that Connecting Carers provides to support carers who feel isolated.”
This year’s Carers Week is supported by many famous celebrities with caring experience, including British actor, Lynda Bellingham.
She says: “Sometimes the role of a carer can be a very hard and lonely one and Carers Week is a time when hopefully a carer doesn’t feel quite so alone. It is also a time to pass on information and contacts to try to help with different circumstances. It is a week to answer questions about finances, respite and health care issues. If each carer felt that one aspect of their lives had been improved with such a caring week, then the concept has been a huge success. Once again, let’s all care about the carers.”
Other celebrities supporting this campaign include Dame Judi Dench, Angela Rippon, Jack Charlton and Martin Lewis.
