It was indeed to do with Knit In Public Day, an event to show that knitting is not just for grannies! The idea was to bring a smile to people's faces. There was no advertising as the element of surprise and mystery is a key part of yarnbombing (the name for decorating public spaces with knitting). The items appeared very early on Saturday morning and any remaining items will be removed soon (though people are welcome to take a "souvenir").

Phew! That's a relief as I admit to taking a really cute hat which is now keeping my ipod warm. I was worried but perhaps I should dash over there for more......
