Rock-on!... but the watchword is -"Don't drive if you have taken drink or drugs"

NORTHERN Constabulary's Road Policing Inspector says the Force has a robust traffic management plan in place to ease congestion and help ensure revellers arrive and leave Rockness safely.
Inspector Derek Paterson, head of the Force's Road Policing Unit, is also advising those travelling to and from the festival that Police will also be targeting drink and drug drivers.
RockNess 2012 falls at the end of the first week of the ACPOS Summer Safety campaign targeting drink/drug drivers. As such Northern Constabulary has dedicated resources to target those who drive from the event whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.
Inspector Derek Paterson, Head of Road Policing said: "Every year a number of drink/drug drivers are detected leaving the event and these people put their own and others lives at risk, despite repeated warnings. We want to ensure everyone gets home safely from the event, which we hope will be the case this year."
Inspector Paterson offered advice: "If you are planning driving from the event and have been drinking the day before you need to be aware that you may still be over the limit even after a period of 12 hours without consuming alcohol."
He added: "Every year there is an enhancement to the transport available to and from the event and we fully support this. I would ask those attending, even at this late stage, to consider whether they need to travel by car as it is a long event which will see most people very tired at its conclusion and, with this in mind, collisions can happen."
The biggest volume of traffic arrives during the Friday and to reduce delays and improve the management of traffic on the road, a new entry point has been created solely for traffic seeking access to the car parks.
The arrangements for drop off’s and taxis is the same as last year. These vehicles will use the road directly opposite the school. The entry point for the car park is approximately 200 yards before the school, when travelling from Inverness.
Inspector Paterson said: "This arrangement will hopefully increase traffic flow and improve journey times for motorists not attending Rockness. As always we would ask that people leave plenty of time for their journeys as due to the numbers attending the festival there will be more vehicles on the road.
"We would also urge motorists to be patients as queues are likely, bearing in mind an increased volume of traffic in the Highlands because of the many other events around Inverness over the same weekend.
Police wanted to also remind drivers in Inverness to expect an increase in traffic on Friday 8th and Monday 11th June and should allow plenty of time for their journeys for work or access to businesses and services in particularly the area around the southern distributor road.
