Loved watching that programme the other night with the home videos of when Charles was a child etc.
They almost seemed normal lol
And what a responsibility to be made queen at 25!
I know a lot of folk don't like the royals, but I do!

Tut tut!!!
Mr."I know it all" getting something wrong? Well I never...I suppose that's the difference between a scientist and a chemist.
(and if you realised straight after posting that you had got it wrong why did it take someone to point it out to you before you altered your original post?)!!
I would stick to stalking Wimmin if I were you!!

Please don't tell me we're gonna have to go through all this malarkey again next year as well...Apparently, it's the year of accession to the throne that's celebrated, not the coronation - although today is indeed the 59th anniversary of the Queen's coronation.

So you can breathe easily next year.

So by that logic maybe I should start counting my age from conception, not birth... Wish I'd known that when I was 17 & got kicked out of the pub for being under-age...

The pageantry of the last few days has been impressive. The Queen will need a week's rest after this!

The BBC have bemoaned the lack of street parties in Scotland. There was one a few streets from me on Saturday, and another one just two streets away today.

Sadly, I wasn't invited to either of them....

I wasn't invited to that either....

Lol! Hen Broon's a loser - and always will be...sadly....

I'm no sure I'd want to be invited to a street party in Auchenshuggle. I bet Her Majesty wisnae invited either.

I ken a lassie who's Gordy's neighbour. She says they live a quiet life.

I watched some of it today - I love the pomp and pageantry of it all but you see those commentators and the endless procession of nauseating "experts" just annoys the bejeesus out of me. I had to watch it with the sound turned off after one presenter said something like " the queen is smiling more today than she was yesterday and we have an expert in the Queen's smile with us just now" Dire

Just to keep things in perspective

Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
May by thy mighty aid,
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
and like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush,
God save the Queen.

This verse was not used soon after 1745, and certainly before the song became accepted as the British national anthem in the 1780s and 1790s

and Jacobite beliefs were demonstrated in an alternative verse :

God bless the prince, I pray,God bless the prince, I pray,Charlie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_Save_the_Queen#cite_note-34) I mean; That Scotland we may seeFreed from vile Presbyt'ry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presbyterianism),Both George (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_II_of_Great_Britain) and his Feckie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick,_Prince_of_Wales),Ever so, Amen.

So yes lets please do keep things in perspective !!!

That Scots that were crushed were indeed rebellious - they were mostly highlanders but they included some English amongst their number.

Those that were doing the crushing were the British Army, which included many Scots amongst its numbers. The British Army was crushing insurgents who were trying to get the monarchy for Bonnie Prince Charlie - a man who believed in the divine right of kings to do as they wished, irrespective of what parliament wanted -which is just what his grandfather was booted out for doing. Charlie was born and raised in Rome (the son of a Scot and a Pole), he received training as an anti-British terrorist in France, and (as far as I know) he didn't set foot on Scottish soil until he was 25.

Charlie is one of those people from history who seems to have good PR for some reason. No idea why he was by all accounts a thoroughly unlikeable person, he wasn't even interested in Scotland. He merely wanted to use it as a crutch to get the British throne.

And tell me will we never hear the end
of poor bloody Charlie at Culloden yet again
though he ran like a rabbit in the glen
leaving better folk than him to be butchered
