We've just acquired a piano, does anyone know someone who can tune pianos and what prices they charge. Any help would be welcome.

Hi there
Malcolm Smith Pianos are very good. They come up from Edinburgh every couple of months. you'll see the advert in the Groat or you'll see his big yellow van.

Moray Firth Piano Tuners (in the Phone Book) are excellent.
Joanne Mason (Golspie)

I have reservations about Malcolm's tunings. His students/apprentices did a much better job than him. I think he does the Grand Piano at Thurso High (his van is often outside the school on Live Music nights) but I know that he often only tunes pianos to themselves. Not much use if you need it for an accompaniment but fine if you are only playing on your own.

Joanne Mason from Brora is first class but is in London at present. Don't know when she's coming back.

Have to agree Joanne from Brora is really good. She called me a couple of weeks ago and is hoping to come to do some "Caithness rounds" in a couple of months time.
