As a practising sentimentalist and lover of gooey songs and even Europop "Boom Bang La La Flump" music I have studied over many years pop songs and their lyrics. As a pedant and a grammatical thug I love it when lyrics are squeezed in anyhow to fit the beat, without regard to sense or reason.

A great example is Julie Andrews' beautifully sung "Sound of Music" which contains the disturbing image of a bird with aerodynamically impossible wings -

"To sing through the night like a lark that is learning to pray". Great rhythm, zero sense.

Heard today on Wireless Two today ("Sounds of the Sixties"), in a song called "Juliet" -

"Things you do reminiscent of you" Well, they WOULD be, wouldn't they????

Two other "quickies" come to mind - from "Venus", by the Dutch Band "Shocking Blue" -

"A GodNess on a mountain top",

And Leapy Lee's "Little Arrows" contains the line "so you see there's no eCscape".

And in "Bette Davis' Eyes" does Kim Carnes REALLY sing "And she knows just what in takes to make a clothesbrush????"

Have you got any favourite boo-boos from the deeply intellectual world of bubblegum pop?

I've never understood why The Lion King opens with a shriek of the Arsenal manager's name. They do it a couple of times.

You have to listen for about 20 seconds.

Darken the city, night is a wire. Steam in the subway, earth is a fire. (Hungry like the wolf, Duran Duran).

"Oh, me clothes won't let me go", turned out to be "Hold me close, (don't let me go)" - David Essex.

I was very young..

Madonna's La Isla Bonita, Young girl with eyes like potatoes???One that's always confused me, and it is the genuine line, comes from Lean on Me by Red Box: From the centre of the Earth to the corners of the globe...Eh???
