Accused didn't appreciate morning-after drinks effect

A morning-after-the-night-before drinks driver was fined £400 and banned for 16 months at Wick Sheriff Court today.
Part-time hairdresser, Marion Miller, of Henderson Square, Watten, admitted the offence which occurred on March 6, in Back Bridge Street, Wick.
The court was told that police, acting on a tip-off, stopped the accused and carried out the usual procedures after detecting a smell of alcohol. Subsequent tests revealed a blood-alcohol level of 146mgs-the legal limit is 80mgs.
Solicitor Sylvia MacLennan described it as “a classic case of the morning after...” The accused and her husband had been out socialising the night before and she didn’t appreciate she was not fit to drive the following day.
Sheriff Andrew Berry commented on the high reading and told Miller: “I am sure you are fully aware of the dangers there are, through not being able to drive, having taken too much to drink.”
The accused can reduce the disqualification, by four months, if she successfully completes the drinks-drivers rehabilitation course.
