Long service and good conduct medals presented
POLICE officers, who formerly served in Caithness, are among colleagues from Central Division recognised by the Chief Constable for their Long Service and Good Conduct with Northern Constabulary.
The officers, who have all served over 20 years with the Force, received their prestigious medals from Chief Constable George Graham at a ceremony at Force HQ in Inverness.
Many of the Central Division officers, who were joined by recipients from other Divisions, were accompanied by their families at the ceremony.
The Chief Constable thanked each officer individually for their "significant contribution to Policing in the Highlands and Islands," and praised them and their families for their commitment, which he said was shared due to the nature of Policing and the impact it can have on family life.
Mr Graham said: "Being a police officer is far more than just a job as officers put themselves at danger, are always 'on duty', work all sorts of unsociable hours and commit themselves to making communities better.
He said:"In handing out these medals it is also important to recognise and thank officer's families who support and give so much over the years. These medals are not handed out to every officer and as well as recognising long service it also highlights an officer's exemplary conduct during their time in service."
The first recipient is Sergeant Jane Nicolson, who is based in Stornoway in the Western Isles. Jane joined the Force in June 1991 and has been stationed in Stornoway since 2005. She has also worked in Inverness, Wick, HQ and Portree during her career so far.
Another officer who served in the Far North is PC George Ewing, who is currently stationed in Alness. He joined Northern Constabulary in January 1992 after transferring from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary at Dounreay. He has been stationed at Alness/Evanton since 2008 and his other postings include Fort William, Castletown, HQ and Wick. He successfully completed the Police Diploma in February this year and is also a trained Wildlife Crime officer and Search officer.
