Funding in an advanced stage say Highland Council

HIGHLAND councillors have set a target of opening a new secondary school and two new primary schools in Wick by August 2015.
Discussions with the Scottish Government are at an advanced stage over the funding of the new Wick High School Council, which will include a community swimming pool and community library.
In progressing the design and build project, the council proposes to enter into a 25 year contract with the Hub North Scotland Ltd (the Hub).
The council is also set to include the construction of the new North and South Primary Schools in the same contract with the Hub. The primary school projects will be financed separately, through the Council’s capital programme. All three projects will proceed simultaneously.
The new South Primary School will be incorporated within the campus of the new Wick High School. It will replace South Primary School and Pulteneytown Academy Primary School. The new North Primary School will replace the existing North Primary School and Hillhead Primary School on the site of North Primary School.
Convener Sandy Park said: “This is a very significant investment in education in East Caithness and will firmly place the schools at the centre of the community. Together with the construction of a major new Council office at Market Square, Wick, the schools projects will also provide a much needed boost for the local construction industry.”
