Birthday celebration ended up in the cells

THREE young Brora men, who kicked up a ruckus outside Thurso’s Skinandi's nightclub at the start of the year, were each fined £300 at Wick Sheriff Court today....and banned from the premises for two years.
Said to be “ashamed and embarrassed” by their drunken behaviour, the trio, Scott Millar (22) of Wayside, Doll, Matthew Norrie also (22) of 1 Manse Park, and Lewis Beaumont (21) of 9 Faskally Cottages, all Brora, pleaded guilty to threatening or abusive behaviour.
The story of the birthday celebration that ended up in the police cells, in the early hours of January 15, was outlined by senior fiscal depute, David Barclay.
He said it was difficult to ascertain how the trouble, around 1am, started, but amid the boisterous nature of patrons leaving the nightclub, a “stramash” involving the three accused, broke out. The three apprentices began kicking and punching the front doors on the establishment.
Mr Barclay continued: “This led to a scuffle with the stewards trying to ensure that the accused remained outside. The background to all this would seem to indicate a case of three young lads with too much to drink, getting a bit out of hand.”
Solicitor Neil Wilson, for Millar and Norrie, explained that the trio had been put out of the nightclub earlier and had been trying to get back in, in “an inappropriate manner”. Their conduct had been "entirely out of character" and they wished to apologise to the court.
Jo McDonald, for Beaumont, also tendered an apology. She said the three of them had been celebrating his birthday and were paying their first-ever visit to Skinandi's where they had made “utter fools of themselves” and were “ashamed and embarrassed” by their behaviour.
Passing sentence, Sheriff Andrew Berry said he took into account the fact they were all first offenders and had spent a night in the cells, and added he would impose fines on the basis that their conduct would never be repeated.
The sheriff made the observation, however, that it was possible that the nightclub’s management might take the view that the accused were still not welcome as customers and extend the compulsory ban on entering the establishment, once the initial two-year period was up.

Nightclub ban No 2

ANOTHER nightclub ban was handed out by the sheriff, this time at the other end of the county.
Andrew Munro of Nicolson Street, Wick admitted a breach of the peace outside the Waterfront premises, on New Year’s Day.
It was stated that Munro (31) repeatedly attempted to gain entry to the nightclub. A bystander intervened to assist stewards and got caught up in a minor struggle.
The accused, a chef, was banned from the club for two years, fined £300, and ordered to pay the bystander, David MacLeod compensation of £100.
