Hi folks,

does anyone know how to apply for this card -does it actually make a difference to price, thinking especially of wick to aberdeen fares which seem so expensive for our son to uni and back

when booking ensure you enter and book through the Air Discount Scheme site, otherwise discount does not apply if booked direct with the airline online booking system.

I use it a lot and i think it saves about 40% (I'm sure someone will correct me if this is wrong). As Pat says, be sure to book flights via ADS or you will not get the discount

You will then be prompted for your ADS number and PIN.

As AMS and therealducati say you do get a discount of approx 40% - making a real saving when booking late.

We can only use this to fly to Aberdeen or Edinburgh from Wick, am I right?

ADS is only available from designated areas of Scotland.
Living in Western Isles I can get it to Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow - not sure about getting it to Aberdeen as aircraft lands in Inverness and have been told as flight lands there discount is not accepted for Inverness to Aberdeen (not confirmed so check it out).

You can use this to fly from or to any Air Discount Scheme designated airport (Basically Wick and the islands).

So from Wick, yes, only Aberdeen or Edinburgh. If you were flying onwards, ie Wick to Aberdeen to Newcastle, only the Wick to Aberdeen stage is discounted.

On the face of it, it's a good scheme, but in reality it's flawed. A return to Aberdeen, booked in advance (before ADS) was always around the £100. When the ADS scheme came in, Easter Airways raised all their prices and, low and behold, a return flight still cost about £100. It's risen slightly again since.

If the government really wanted to subsidise flights from the highlands, they would simply remove the "taxes and charges" which make up about £60 of the cost of a ticket. Instead, all they're doing is boosting the airlines profits.
