I am often intrigued by attraction...

What makes people attractive?

A couple of weeks ago, I was on the bus home after a trip abroad. A woman and her daughter got on the bus and sat in the seat in front of me. I was instantly attracted to the woman - but I can't really work out why.

I don't know her name, so I'll call her Violet Hill.

Violet must have been at least 10 years older than me.

Her hair was grey(ish) with a strawberry swing - but styled immaculately. Her facial skin was perfect, but she had quite prominent crow's feet around her eyes. For some unfathomable reason, this made her more attractive. Why?

The way Violet's hair fell across her cheeks was such that I couldn't take my eyes off it. Why?

She wore earrings with huge diamonds. You might say they were ridiculously ostentatious, but I couldn't take my eyes off them. Why?

They got off the bus before I worked up the courage to speak to her. Why?

At this rate I shall meet death and all his friends before I bump into her again.

PS No prizes for guessing what my aural entertainment on that bus was.

Your aural entertainment was a cadenced and pleasing voice in front of you.

The instant attraction was her smell; my wife is certain that smell is the first trigger of attention.

The crows feet indicated experience of life and you prefer grown-ups to embryos.

The diamonds did exactly what they were designed to do.

Their getting off the bus has nothing to do with your courage. You have all the inhibitions and morality of western society which prevent you foisting your unwanted attentions on women you do not know; this is more to your credit than otherwise.

Death has no friends.

PS - Viva la Diva...

Mrs L is right about smells - but only 99% of the time. Strangely, I don't remember Violet's perfume at all.

I forgot to mention that Violet had pale blue Cameron Diaz eyes - which may have been what did the trick!

The crows feet indicated experience of life and you prefer grown-ups to embryos.Yes, probably. But I interviewed a young woman this week, and I'm a little embarrassed to admit that she held my attention in a similar way. On this occasion, it was definitely her eyes, her flawless facial skin, and her incredible intellect that did the trick.

The diamonds did exactly what they were designed to do.Indeed lol!

PS - Viva la Diva...I also forgot to mention that she was wearing a wedding ring, she was definitely older than 42, I was Lost, and she probably wouldn't have said Yes anyway. I could mention Life in Technicolor, but that would fit better on one of my other threads.

Viva la Diva indeed!

Passing By
(Robert Herrick, 1592-1674)

There is a lady sweet and kind
Was never face so pleased my mind,
I did but see her passing by
And yet I love her till I die!

Her gestures, motions and her smile
Her wit, her voice, my heart beguile;
Beguile my heart, I know not why
And yet I love her till I die!

Cupid is winged, and doth range
Her country; so my heart doth change.
But change the earth, or change the sky
Yet will I love her till I die!

"Violet Hill"

It was a long and dark December
From the rooftops I remember
There was snow, white snow

Clearly I remember
From the windows they were watching
While we froze down below

When the future's architectured
By a carnival of idiots on show
You'd better lie low

If you love me, won't you let me know?

Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And a fox became God

Priests clutched onto bibles
Hollowed out to fit their rifles
And a cross held aloft
Bury me in armour
When I'm dead and hit the ground
A love back home, it unfolds
And if you love me, won't you let me know?

I don't want to be a soldier
Who the captain of some sinking ship
Would stow, far below.
So if you love me, why d'you let me go?

I took my love down to violet hill
There we sat in snow
All that time she was silent still
Said if you love me, won't you let me know?
If you love me, won't you let me know?

Today I had an encounter that creeped me out and changed my amused thoughts on this thread. I was out shopping and young man said hello to me, to which I replied hello and went about my business. Then he said 'how are you today?" to which I smiled and replied 'fine, thank you' and continued with my shopping. A couple minutes later he waved in my direction and I thought there must be a friend of his behind me. As I turned I saw that no one was behind me, and then he waved at me again. He was just 5 feet from me so he could have easily spoken if he wanted to know the time or tell me I had toilet paper stuck to my shoe or whatever but no, he just stood there leering. He made me uncomfortable. I usually enjoy a good flirt but there was something about the way he looked at me that made me uneasy. It made me think about this thread and how there really is 'something' in the air, sometimes good and sometimes bad.

That must have been awful for you sassylass and I share your concern. I think there is a big difference between mild flirting and stalking and some Men need to learn that difference very quickly before they land themselves in trouble!!

now S I S i think you maybe making slight progress here with Linnie but a couple of things have sprung to mind about her. 1 have you ever seen or met the girl? 2 do you know where she lives? i ask this for a reason most things you suggest are day time activities but she seems to have an aversion to sunlight i also noticed most of here post are after midday. i think you maybe seeing where i am going with this. does she reside in Portgower and is she a vampire?

I know nothing about Linnie that she hasn't posted here. She burns easily, she doesn't like the cold, and she hasn't expressed an opinion about rain, but none of those preferences imply that she's a lady of the night.

Violet, on the other hand, I have seen only at night - although admittedly in a brightly lit bus.

I sometimes have the do I know you or are you a random person "thing" going through my head, when yapped to/at when shopping...its disconcerting when you cant place the person....yet they think you know em...sometimes I can file them away as getting me and my sisters mixed up or Grannies friends who knew her or Mums cares family relies etc ...but I dont know who they are etc....but there are always one or two I cant place that worries me!
Just how they know me without me knowing them......ok everyone on here doesnt need a degree in spy tech to find out who I am...but I would like a clue in who you are if speaking to me ...or propositioning me!
oh normal flirting and repping good or bad exempt...just chatting in tescos without a clue is worrying!

I've given up trying to find Violet. I think it was a chance encounter - which was never to be repeated.

I have a good friend (Princess of China) - she's gorgeous, but she's a bit too young for me, unfortunately.

Bill, I will never give up on Violet, but I think she was a visitor to these parts, so I doubt I'll see her again.

Linnie, on the other hand, is a regular poster on the forum, and I might enjoy intelligent conversation with her on some beach some day.

Princess of China is a woman I work with - which, together with her relatively young age, tells me it wouldn't be a good idea to pursue her.

Sadly, Ms Wednesday didn't call to arrange things for Wednesday. After several calls from me today, my calls were finally returned this afternoon....

Due to busy times at her work, our next meeting has been postponed until the weekend at the earliest.

John, my Princess of China really is from China, although I must admit I'd happily take Rihanna as a replacement.

Billmoseley's post on another thread reminded me that I came home on the "Violet" bus last night. Sadly, I still haven't seen her again.

I did have a very enjoyable date with Ms Wednesday in July, and I bumped into her again a few days later, but sadly she was much too young - even for me lol.

It turns out that Ms Wednesday is an actress and model, but she's not yet successful enough to give up the day job.

It had nothing to do with you driving buses, it's because you are one of the few forum members who appreciate my appreciation of a beautiful woman I saw on a bus.

Where is your cellar? I'd better check it out just in case lol.
