Does anybody know if the catchement area for Thurso includes Lybster/Occumster?
Do children near there have to go to Wick or is there a choice?
Pros and cons please :)

No the catchment area doesn't include Lybster/Occumster. The associated primary schools are Reay, Thurso, Castletown, Halkirk, Dunnet and Bower, but those who would rather send their children to Thurso High can apply to do so. The parent handbook says:
"Pupils who live outside the catchment area must make an application (a "placing request") to the Area Education Manager, Caithness, Sutherland & Easter Ross, Drummuie, Golspie, KW10 6TA. Forms are available from Thurso High School. Parents applying for such a placement should realise they may be liable for some or all of the transport cost to and from Thurso High."
So you never know - it might be worth a shot. Although you'll have to look into bus services if you're not able to get them there and back yourself every day.

I don't think Bower is in the catchment area for Thurso.
