Once again the illegal Japanese whaling fleet has scuttled back to Japan (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-17309320) after failing to kill the intended 900 whales that it planned on butchering for a "scientific research programme"

Although 300 whales were killed full credit must be given to Sea Shepherd Conservation (http://www.seashepherd.org/) who, once again, have proved that the slaughter of whales by explosive harpoons can be stopped.
Whilst some environmental organisations sit and wring their hands (and collect donations) Sea Shepherd (http://www.seashepherd.org/) and to a lesser extent Greenpeace continue to defeat those who want to kill the wildlife in our oceans

Commercial whaling has been banned for 30 years, yet since 1987 Japan has conducted what it calls "scientific research", which it states is needed to establish the size of whale populations. This is merely a subterfuge to enable it to continue commercial whaling as there are other ways in which this information can be collected.

Contrary to what the Japanese Whaling Association would have us think whale meat is not part of the staple diet in Japan, it is little more than a delicacy and is only consumed by 5% of the population (http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/oceans/whaling/ending-japanese-whaling/whale-meat-in-japan/). and has been dropping steadily since the mid 1960's
Because of this decline the whaling industry has been trying to find new markets, including school lunches and dog food. Nevertheless, in 2007 more than 4,000 tonnes of whale meat sat frozen, unsold, and unwanted in Japanese warehouses.
This whole bloody trade is heavily subsidised by the Japanese government (http://www.greenpeace.org/international/Global/international/planet-2/report/2008/5/whale-meat-scandal-dossier.pdf) to the tune of 5 million US dollars per year.

Help Sea Shepherd continue their fine work by becoming a member at Sea Shepherd (http://www.seashepherd.org/support-us/)

Thanks Anfield for once again trying to make people aware that we're one of the least civilised creatures on this planet.

Thanks billmoseley for confirming it.
